Biography:

The ROOBS are a band with quite a pedigree, the members having been leading lights in some of Tasmania's and indeed Australia's most notorious garage rock bands. Chonga (singer) cut his teeth as front man with The Surfin Poobars in 1989; Aidan (guitarist), played with seminal indie rockers The Philisteins, before moving on to join The Powdermonkeys, and later forming The Glorystompers; Emma (bass player), was the singer for unforgettable mid-eighties Hobart outfit The Cryptics; and Timmy Jack Ray drummed all over the globe with The Powdermonkeys.

The band's set, consists of mostly original material with a smattering of covers from the likes of The New York Dolls, The Zeros, The 13th Floor Elevators and The Barracudas. You might even catch them throwing in a Stooges or MC5 tune if they're in the mood.

High-energy rock 'n' roll is the name of the game for this crew, and their energetic performance and on-stage antics make their gigs a real show. Make no mistake, ROOBS rock n roll is not music to sit and reflect upon, it reaches out and grabs you, pulling you into the vortex of real rock action.

THE ROOBS launched TROUT in North Hobart as an alternative live music venue on Boxing Day 2003. They literally instantly sprouted a large following and packed out the venue until its close mid 2006, when the band moved their HQ to The Brisbane Hotel. The Roobs have played a few shows in Launceston, and last November hit Melbourne with a whirlwind 4 shows in 2 nights to enthusiastic crowds, even being described in "Fried Cat" magazine as the best band of the night, for their appearance at The Tote, playing first on a bill that included Spencer P. Jones, The Onyas, and Hoss, among other notables. Their presence hasn't been overlooked by touring Rock 'n' Roll bands either, with supports for The Dirtbombs, Rocket Science and The Hard Ons falling in their lap, as well as a host of other well known tourers such as the Cosmic Psychos, Celibate Rifles, the Spazzys, The Drones and The Go-Set.

The Roobs debut CD E.P. "Sweetheart of the Garage" was released in January 2005. It features 5 rip roaring tunes which offer a very real taste of the wildness that is a live Roobs set and is distributed through Melbourne label, Off The Hip.

The Band has recently finished recording their first full length album. It's Self-Titled and was launched on Saturday September 27 at The Brisbane Hotel to a very large and enthusiastic crowd.
